The name Steve Dagg stood out to me on Billy's List. It’s in the special mentions section.

Until I met Yolanda, I didn’t know if I had or had not heard of Steve before, after my interview with Yolanda, I went home and googled his old band the Swinging Sidewalks and found a clip of the band on Bert Newton’s Midday show that my Mum loved back in the day, it was on before Days of Our Lives.

I would have seen the Swinging Sidewalks perform on the ABC’s Big Gig when I could as I was obsessed with the Doug Anthony Allstars, as probably most teenagers stuck in the country with 2 TV stations would be. Also my would be first husband freaked out, when I played ‘I heard it on the Grapeline’ by them to him; as he thought I had heard it on the Grapeline, and yes I still ask why I got married at 21 to him.

Back to the point. Steve Dagg changed Yolanda’s life and we are all the better for it.

Yolanda has called herself a plonker on the guitar but there is something special about her plonking. The time and space in her music is beautiful and her voice can give you shivers. Over the last 20 years she has built a wonderful repertoire of music and developed a musical writing skill that really gives stories a life and you are leaving wanting more.

Attending her gig on a Sunday Afternoon there was not an unreserved table and so I had to sit right up the front. It was great to see the musicians get along so well and also Dan on keyboards who went to the wrong pub initially, cope with all of that and still play with jazz hands.

Spending time with her during the interview was like spending time with an old friend. She shares some awesome surprising stories including one with Paul McCarthy in Episode 3 of Making of a Musician.

I was quite surprised at some of the things I have cut out that I stated to her, I feel a little bit bad about the over sharing about what drives me as a musician but I think that may have been something about the ease Yolanda was to talk to.

I hope you enjoy learning a little more about Yolanda and her making of a Musician. And I hope you feel like you can do anything after listening. She is inspirational.

Since writing this and sending out Part 1 of Yolanda’s episode our friend Billy's heart tried to get out of this place, but unfortunately for him, he is stuck with all of us for a bit longer.

It is not his time and I wish him such a speedy recovery because without him I wouldn’t know to just do: doe ray me and sing to the piano to improve my singing. I still have resisted to do this,  specifically, because it is boring. And he is so funny and fun and has the most lovely partner Michelle, who I am also thinking of.

Look after your loved ones and let your friends know what you think of them as often as possible. Thanks for reading and listening.
