Unfinished Songs - Updated
I really should not even be in charge of a notebook sometimes.
I made a rule with myself before I finished my EP in 2022 that I couldn't work on a new song til these ones were finished.
Now, in hindsight, this was a silly rule as I have so many unfinished songs I don't know where to start.
I have written 3 draft songs in the last few weeks. I wrote a sequal to a Kruzy song called Inside. That song is boring but has some good parts and it is way too repitively sad. It is about a moment in time that did really change everything in my family forever.
The lines of the sequal that I wrote that surprised me and amde me cry, was
I made mistakes
But I did not lie
And for that he died
Thinking I was the bad guy.
It's about my dad, he was gaslit about me for 15 years.
So maybe don't let your Dad think you are the cause of all conflicts when you are not, he might die going for a walk.
Yolanda and I talk about unfinished songs in her episode of making of a musician and also about using the writing you made as a teenager.
Below you will see a picture of 'Wheel of Fortune', I thought this was my first ever song, it comes from a title of a book in my Mum's bookcase and I did not read the book. Turns out there is a song written before this one. I remember writing it on a Sunny afternoon in our office.
Turns out using a title of a book is a good way to start a song.
I have a song I was writing with my friend Stevie B before he died nearly 10 years ago that I finished then forget so I finish it again, but I think this time I am really close to finishing it. In fact I think I had really worked it out about a month ago after I listened to Cris Sirc's episode again from Season 1.
It is hard because he was a prankster and we were writing it in messenger so I have the thread, he was my husbands best friend and I wish he was here this week. He also was a founding member of Sonic Animation.
The song we were writing together starts with his verse about Mel and him, his girlfriend. Sadly she passed away from Cancer a couple of years after Stevie left us.
Here they are with Cris Sirc
